The Hotel
Open spaces and the symmetry of both natural and man-made structures play many roles at Plettenberg Park, not only in terms of the panoramic views across the ocean and savannah behind, but also within the architecture of the hotel itself. Plettenberg Park is an all-weather hotel, brilliant and lazy in summer sunshine, with spectacular arching views of the ocean, whilst in winter guests can experience the wild, blustery days in front of log fires.

The interior of the hotel is somewhat contemporary, with a dash of sophistication and mixed with local ingredients reflecting the trends of today. The architecture is refreshingly simple with long lines running unobtrusively the length of the building, resulting in spacious windows and wide terraces. The décor consists of natural materials and neutral tones that permeate throughout.

What to do
Plettenberg Park is situated on 200ha of land with approximately 3km of cliff-faced shoreline. The park has three natural wetlands plus a large dam filled with bass. The indigenous vegetation consists of fynbos and proteas. The park abounds with small game and animals such as grysbok, mongoose, baboons, bushbuck and Cape clawless otter as well as several species of snake. Over 65 bird species have been noted on the reserve including loerie, herons, falcons, crowned eagles, spotted eagle owls, giant kingfishers, sunbirds and cormorants.

Plettenberg Park has an outstanding coastline which is an excellent platform from which to view the Humpback whales that visit this stretch of ocean in winter, as well as the numerous schools of dolphin that are playful residents all year round.

Relax in the sun at our cove beach situated below the hotel, or spend the day around the hotel swimming pool whilst savouring all the amenities on offer. Boat trips can be arranged to view the seals, dolphins, sharks, penguins, sea-birds or whales.

Travel on foot through the Tsitsikamma Forest or stretch your legs along the Outeniqua coastline and feast your eyes on the wonders of creation. Experience the many nature walks that meander through the park, or for a complete contrast, travel to Plettenberg Bay itself. Only minutes away, this holiday mecca is home to the rich and famous.

Explore the nature’s valley lagoon, river and sandy beach (30 minutes drive) – canoeing trips are available at the lagoon. Visit the old whaling station and the chapel of St Andrews or take time to view Monkeyland – a primate sanctuary for captive-bred species. Experience the world famous Storms River Canyon, playground to river rafting, climbing, bungi-jumping, kloofing (canyoning), mountain-bike trails, bass and fly-fishing, diving and snorkelling. All can be booked through the local operators.

If golf is your game or tennis or squash, there are many courses or courts in the proximity which can be selected for you. Ask at reception for advice on any activities and sites to visit. Alternatively visit the nearby tourist office where you can pick up leaflets containing information on activities and a choice of local tour operators. The list is endless!
