Knysna is a very popular holiday destination for both tourists and locals as it has a warm climate throughout the year. In recent years many world-class golf estates have opened up which has led Knysna to become even more popular. These are all situated on the lagoon and offer stunning views of the Knysna area. The beach is also very popular which lies directly west of the Knysna heads and is a popular surf spot as well. Each year in July the annual Pick 'n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival is held by the city of Knysna. This event attracts the largest amount of visitors to the city and is loved by tourists and locals. Knysna's claims to be the home to the fabled Knysna forest elephant.
