Escape to Bushmans Kloof, a heavenly wilderness, a retreat of unparalleled beauty and recreational diversity. Discover the continued re-birth of a long forgotten land and the wonders of Flora, Fauna and Rock Art. This refuge for body and soul is surrounded by thousands of acres of majestic, savage beauty and windsculpted landscape of reddish sandstone rock formations – in the heart of the Cederberg Mountains in the Western Cape. The reserve is the winner of the coveted Relais & Chateaux Environment Trophy 2007.

Bushman Rock Art:

The reserve is rich in Bushman rock art with over 130 pristine sites, some dating as far back as 10 000 years making them one of the oldest recorded examples of human art. Visitors may join daily-guided walks with experienced guides along rivers and through the veld to view a selection of the sites.

Fauna:

View the expansive environment and game with daily nature drives through the reserve including: Gemsbok, Bontebok, Cape Mountain Zebra, Eland, Red Hartebees, Grey Rhebok, Klipspringer, Kudu, Springbok, Steenbok to name a few. Bushmans Kloof is home to 35 species of mammals and 150 different species of bird such as Malachite Kingfischer, African fish eagle and Black Harrier. Sightings of Aardwolf, African Wildcat, Bat Eared Fox, Cape Fox and Porcupine are possible.

Flora:

From July through to October the veld comes alive with Spring flowers, revealing the colours of thousands of beautiful and some unusual flowers. 755 indigenous plant species have been identified within the reserve, including Bushmans Kloofs own 'Cederberg Seven' – a group of shrub and tree species that thrive within the reserve and are not found together anywhere else in the world.

Outdoor Activities:

There are no large predators at Bushmans Kloof and guests are encouraged to explore the great outdoors and interact with nature as they please. Bushmans Kloof is malaria free. Activities include: Hiking and Walking, Mountain biking, Rock Climbing, Canoeing, Stargazing, Fly-Fishing, Bird Watching, Educational Tours, Painting and Croquet, Swimming in rock pools and near waterfalls, Archery.

 

The Homestead offers guests additional comfort in two lounge areas with fireplaces, satellite flat screen television, an extensive book and DVD library, business facilities with satellite Internet access, a bar, walk-in wine cellar, heated swimming pool and gymnasium.

The Heritage Centre affords guests the opportunity of viewing ancient Bushman artefacts and photographs that depict their nomadic existence and day-to-day life experiences.

The Spa at Bushmans Kloof offers guests a wide variety of exhilarating, restoring and rejuvenating treatments to heal and soothe mind, body and soul. Bushmans Kloof offers exciting venues and locations to dine so no meal is quite alike! Guests can indulge and taste a profusion of gastronomic, healthy or home-style comfort foods, made from the best local fresh produce harvested daily from the organically cultivated gardens.

The lodge offers 16 rooms which can accommodate 32 guests.

3 Suites: All with large private patio, en-suite bathroom with heated towel rails, separate lounge area and some with fireplaces.
All rooms have: Air-conditioning, under-floor heating, ceiling fans, in-room safe, personal mini bars, direct dial telephone. Please note, there are no televisions in the rooms.
Accommodation – Koro Lodge (self-catering)
Koro Lodge is an existing farmhouse in the heart of the reserve that has been renovated and transformed into a spectacular, private villa with stunning views. This privately catered for family experience joins the ultimate of luxury with the wonders of nature, to offer a complete wilderness adventure all year round for families and groups of friends.

The villa is styled in natural vibrant earth colours with beautiful, handcrafted South African objects and furnishings, and is designed and equipped to provide every service and satisfy all needs:

Please note:

  • Bushmans Kloof is malaria and predator free
  • Regret no mobile phone reception
  • Bushmans Kloof is located in a wilderness area.  The terrain is rocky and uneven and has steps in and round the lodge.  It is therefore more suitable to active, fully-mobile guests.
  • Minimum 2 night stay on weekends - Friday and Saturday
  • Minimum 4 night stay during New Year festivities
  • Accommodation is payable six weeks prior to date of guests' arrival
  • Children over the age of 10 are welcome guests and will be charged the full rate. Children of all ages are welcome if booked into the Koro Lodge.
  • Room service is available from 12:00 to 18:00
  • Check-out is 12:00  and check-in is from 14:00 at the main lodge
  • Check-out is 10:30  and check-in is from 15:30 at Koro Lodge
  • Road and Fly-in transfers (departing from Cape Town International Airport) are available on request at an additional charge
